Quick update....

The Pure Stock re-body has been grinding along, sometimes at what feels like a snails pace, but it is getting done. The front end structure is done, the frame is painted, the rest of the body panels are fitted and the backsides painted, the engine/trans installed, and I finished the radiator duct work today. I'm pleased, it turned out pretty well! Tomorrow, the body goes back on! Fuck Yeah! Check the pics:

Race car re-skin update.....

Just a quick update with the goings-of-on-lately. First it's really fucking hard to type without the use of my thumb. Tuesday, I managed to stab the wire lead of the torch handle under my thumb fingernail just after I'd finished laying a weld. The good thing is that it was soo damn hot it cauterizes the wound and is sterile. The downside is that it REALLY hurts after using it while continuing todays work on the car........owwie! Anyways, the heavy fab work is now done at the back of the car. Quarters positioned, support structure done. All that's left is to fab bumper mounts and fab the filler panel. Up front, the lower rad mount is done as is the radiator guard bar. Tomorrow, I'll finish the upper rad mount, fab the nose support structure, and fab the bumper assm. and get it mounted. I'm not sure how much of the bumper stuff I can get done. That'll be a tall order getting all that stuff done. Whatever, Check the pics!

Oh yeah, here's these.....

Well, that's enough ham-fisted typing for now. More in a few days.

Quick update

Just passing through, so here's a quick update on the race car project. All the fuel cell and battery changes are done. As well are the rub rails. Today I started hanging the rear quarters. Monday, I'll finish the quarters and start on the front end. Pics follow with the usual catgirl stuff at the end!

Fuel cell, battery holder, fuel cell guard bar, and misc body structure

Rub rails. The body panels will be placed over these, tying into the rockers. These rear rails would be better with some triangulation, because if somebody hit them, they could bend into the tire. The more I think about it, the more likely I'll weld them in Monday. Take probably 20-30 minutes.....

Here you can see how the quarter sits against the rub rail.

Quarter panel trimmed and mocked up.

Finally, something to do.....

I started the re-build of my brothers Pure Stock racer yesterday by cutting the body and trunk floor off the car. After four seasons of battle, it looked horrible. So, We decided it was time to pretty it up and take advantage of this opportunity to update and improve the cars constuction. Other than it no longer looking like a demolition derby car, it will be quite a bit lighter, due to the removal of a lot of unecessary body structure that wasn't safety related. The fuel cell and battery are being lowered and moved to the left side. Inner and outer "rub rails" are being added to protect the new body. A new, more aerodynamic nose will be installed to clean up the front and help with aero issues. As well, a radiator core support will be fabricated to house a bigger radiator in the hopes of curing, once and for all, cooling issues in the heat of summer racing. These shots are from the end of the day, before heading home. Oh, by the way, it's actually a 85 Chevy Caprice.

Do I really have to say what's next?......

And with that, I'm out.
